October 12, 1973
On this day, Herron Community Performing Arts presented a program titled "An Evening of African Arts" in the Herron School of Art auditorium at 16th and Pennsylvania Streets. The program included visual art, dance, music, poetry readings, and film. The evening was highlighted by a dance performance by Roberto LeHouse, a noted dance teacher.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Herron School of Art reached out to the Indianapolis community in an effort to build relationships and ties. Included were theatrical and dance performances that brought community members to the school to interact with faculty and staff. The events reinforced the idea that Herron and IUPUI were parts of a larger community, not isolated in the academic ivory tower.
